So when we need comfort or direction where do we go?
Bestie?
Hubbie?
Facebook?
The dog or cat?
Therapist? Coworker?
Do we ever think, well I should be with and connect with Jesus on this? What does His word say? Maybe I should pray on it? Nope I think we don't do that enough! We might ask for prayer and even be prayed over, and yet how much time are we really spending with God?
Then guess what we do - we go right back into the world and what it says!
Do we think about the words and thoughts (wether they are my thoughts or someone else's) that are shared with us and how they measure up to what God has for us? Do you put them through the God filter?
What does God expect of us?
Who does He call us to be?
What does His word say?
How do words impact us? Let's watch a short video on what words can do to us.
Video http://youtu.be/iu9P167HLsw
So Wether you believe this to be accurate or not allow yourself to think. What types of words are we exposing ourselves to everyday, including our husbands, friends, and children?
Is it Holy, is it pure, is it righteous? Does it make us clean as water?
Think about what's the first thing you look at in the morning? Oh boy I don't know about you all and yet I know for me it's facebook!! that could be challenging for any of us! It could be your kids, the newspaper , or your wake up call, or that blaring alarm! Do any of you have a a hubby that turns the lights on and then walks out of the bedroom? Nope ok that's just me - shusssssh don't tell Eric he is perfect, I promise!!! What are we doing to start our day?
God has so many beautiful words for us and he calls us to live them out and be the best that he is! It was prevalent in the video what His words can and will do for our body and mind. So I challenge us all, are we spending enough time with God? More time than we spend with our friends, facebook, or the television, or that great book? Or are we just showing up on Sunday ready to listen and walk away not to think about Gods word again until the following church time? Is that what God has for us? To live a mediocre life or to live a blessed and abundant life?!
God calls us to His Kingdom to live life to the fullest!
John 10:10 - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
He calls us to live abundantly and to live as if he is in us and we are holy temples
1st corthians 6:19 - Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
So what is we are digesting everyday? Is it holy and pure - wow I don't know how all you women do this holy thing?! I can't compete with you ladies you all do it better than me! Oops did I just say that? Did my body and brain just digest that and what's worse is now I believe it! Why would I believe that? How many times do you say negative things to yourself? To your children or to your husbands - we all know we don't do it purposely. Yet it happens - I cringe when I hear a mother at the store say your a bad boy or girl. Why not use a different word like disobedient or challenged. What would you do if you heard a child say that? We are all children of God
Galatians 3:26 - So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,
So why is it we are saying such things to ourselves! Why would we tell ourselves over and over again such unholy words and thoughts? Because when we do we are living in the flesh. Does God say these unholy words to us? Does he tell us we are fat, ugly, tired, worn out, aged, bad mothers, wives, sisters or friends? What does he tell us
Song of Solomon 4:9 - have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes, with a single jewel of your necklace.
Deuteronomy 26:18 And the LORD has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands.
So what does God except of us - to keep his commands of course.
1 John 3:1 - See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
He expects us to spend time with him. How you do it doesn't matter ladies, just do it. Read his word daily, listen to a podcast on the road, pray, listen to the bible out loud (or if your like me I don't have time to sit and read or maybe it's the print seems to be getting smaller and smaller these days! Shoot I did it again! Another negative affirmation) go to your bible study and participate, do a family devotion, watch it on late night tv / Joyce Meyers is on!😀 or write out his word! Like Nike says just do it! Isn't it funny we all know the Nike slogan, however do we know our favorite scripture by heart or just sort of know it?! Do we have a favorite scripture? Mine is Jeremiah 29:11
Jeremiah 29:11New International Version (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
So God has all these amazing promises and these precious words for us to just fill up on everyday!
That is what he calls us to do be with him, day in and day out! So how do we know if we are there, with God day in and out. Where is your God peace thermometer at? How do you measure up in this area?! No I don't mean "man my best friend knows every scripture there is and always serves in church! I just don't have time to do that!!!" It's not about what you do or when you do it. Or who sees you do it or how many scriptures you have memorized, right?! It's about your heart and mind and mouth! That is how your know what your thermostat is doing! You are on fire for God or ready to blow your top because your just fed up with that kid, friend, Hubbie, parent, or other lady in church! So which is it?! Well what does your words look like? Are they holy, pure, and peaceful and of the spirit or are they nasty, mean and grumpy and of the flesh?
Matthew 15:18 - But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.
(Do you think that counts when Eric turns the light on at 4:30 am and then walks out of the room!) just kidding remember he is my perfect groom! 😇 So how are you doing in your heart of hearts are you as peaceful as he calls us to be. Do you sit in His lap and allow for him to take all your worries away? That is why he is with us! So that we won't worry right?!
It's like Mary and Martha -
Luke 10:38-42English Standard Version (ESV)
Martha and Mary
38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus[a] entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary.[b] Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
seriously don't we do it, compare ourselves to everyone else and then whine when someone else does it differently than us! They are not better they just do it differently! So be ok with it! So I wonder on a personal note is Mary or Martha a blonde and one a brunette?! (if you all didn't know I have this amazing gorgeous blonde baby sister)Haha it's totally not a competition. It's what God calls us to do and be! To be us in Him! To shine brightly and when we do, we allow others to shine brightly!
From the words of Marianne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
So do that, shine brightly and boldly in Gods word and believe me the only way we can do that is to fall into the arms of Jesus! Even better just fall right into his lap and allow him to do his thing! His mighty and powerful beautiful and holy thing! He is so amazing and only he can do it! So give it up to him, because he will bless you more abundantly than you could ever imagine!!! For only he knows what he has planned for you!!!!
Psalm 91:4
